The Point of No Rechurn
I may very well be nearing the end stage of my recent obsession with frozen creamy pints of deliciousness. Over several weeks I have consumed at least 7 batches (three-quarter pints, each one) of variations of my deadly cocoa gelato, and one of the casualties of all that friendly fire could certainly be my taste buds.
Today the latest spin involved a cinnamon gelato base with a huge swirl of mango gently simmered until sweet and thick. I ate the batch - how could I not - but the while the flavors meshed alright, the COLDness of the whole thing actually started to take a toll. Further, the inherent recipe tweaking produced a rather icy product, so the mouthfeel wasn't quite up to the usual cocoa-tempered standards.
Afterwards I wondered if I should go ahead and make the batch next up in the batter's box - a mellow pumpkin ginger - or just hold on to it for another few days and see if my tongue comes out of its coma.
For tonight I am just craving something warm and pungent, so it might be time for a virtual trip to Vietnam and have some pho.
I leave you with my pre-frozen-binge lunch, in all its leafy and rare/bloody splendor:
